World Cup 2018 – Footballers and their Cars
With the World Cup underway and hope of all football fans turning to Russia, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at Footballers’ cars. It’s no surprise that with average earnings of 2.4 million a year that footballers like to splash the cash on fancy cars. Potentials for our list was awe-inspiring and impressive. Take a look at our favourites.
Bentley Continental GT
This car has probably the biggest reputation as a ‘Footballer’s Car’. It is refined and fast with a topped of 207mph and 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds. Wayne Rooney and Jamie hardy both drive one and Mario Balotelli famously chose to have his covered in military style camouflage wrap.
Check out the Bentley Bentayga which is another model popular with footballers – it’s big, it’s luxurious, it’s just a little brash and impossible to miss!
Designed and developed by Volkswagen Group and manufactured in France by Bugatti and named after the racing driver Pierre Veyron. The Super Sport version is recognised by Guiness World Records as the fastest street-legal production car in the world with a top speed of 267mph.
Cristiano Ronaldo is a Bugatti fan and has recently been showing off his Bugatti Chiron on instagram. In fact Cristiano has quite a car collection and has Bentleys, Ferraris, Aston Martin, RollsRoyce, Maserati and Porsche in his extensive collection.
Range Rover Sport
Range Rover is a car of choice for many footballers including Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford. Wayne Rooney is also a fan but chooses Overfinch the modification company for Range Rover
You might be surprised that the most popular footballer’s car for Premier League stars was the more moderately priced Range Rover Evoque. Perhaps because it’s an ideal car for the school run and practical enough for the training ground.
Nothing quite says ‘footballer’ like the Audi R8! It’s more affordable for the average Premier League footballer that’s not earning the same as Messi or Ronaldo. With it’s V10 engine and Quattro all wheel driver it will definitely beat the Range Rover Sport for speed.
Lamborghini Aventador or Lamborghini Gallardo
It’s no surprise that with the Italian car-maker Lamborghini’s reputation for speed makes it a favourite with footballers. The Aventador can reach a speed of 220mph and 0 – 60 in 2.9 seconds.
Lamborghini Urus – the new 5 seater super sports car with the practicality of an SUV is likely to be on footballer’s wishlist.
Kyle Walker drives a Lamborghini Huracan but also owns a classic mini!
Back in 2008 Tony Adams was the manager of Portsmouth who came up with an innovative team incentive to get the most out of his players. The scheme meant the player deemed to have put in the worst shift in training that day would have to drive home in a Reliant Robin banger.
The players are reported to have paid to develop the decrepit car adding a dodgy spoiler and speaker playing farmyard animal noises to add to the embarrassment.
@TheLeagueMag tweeted a picture of the day David James was the unfortunate player to be taking home the Reliant Robin.
